Title: Machinarium Updated For Big Android Smartphones!
Post by: Alex on September 03, 2012, 09:50:36 pm
"If you have Samsung Galaxy Nexus, S3, HTC One or other Android smartphone with resolution 1280×720 or bigger, you can finally enjoy the game at full screen. It’s still a bit small but definitely playable if you have sharp eyes and fingers. Get the game on Google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.net.machinarium.Machinarium.GP)."

Hello,

the nexus 7 has the screen definition for the game (7", 1280x800) but Machinarium Android is marked as incompatible with that tablet, is there anything i could do to install it on my tablet ?

Thanks in advance

Can't tell you why "Machinarium Android is marked as incompatible with that tablet"...
We heard from another Nexus 7 user that WAS able to load and play the game. See here: http://forum.amanita-design.net/index.php?topic=3981.msg11879#msg11879

Note: "requires Android 2.2 and up (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.net.machinarium.Machinarium)"  maybe that's your problem?

Same problem.
I think because it's a LCD density problem: Nexus 7 has lcd_density = 213 (tvdpi), so (I presume) incompatible in google pay store's installation.

Some users resolved this problem installing an .apk of game and launching it with device in landscape mode (launching in portrait the screen of game is too small) or
by installing via google play store with a hack like this:

more info here:

I hope will be fixed soon.
Thanks

Fixed!

November 9, 2012 (https://www.facebook.com/Amanita.Design/posts/123077831181067) post on the Amanita Design Facebook page:

"hey Nexus 7 owners, get the latest Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/) if you want to play Machinarium on your tablet. the game is still not available on Google Play for you but works fine when you install it from the bundle."

I'm also unable to purchase for my Nexus 7 tablet and the Humble Bundle thing is over:

Simply grayed out as an option. Would love to buy it for my Kids though.

Thanks,
Mark

Like it says (https://www.facebook.com/Amanita.Design/posts/123077831181067), "still not available on Google Play"

Too bad you missed the Humble Android Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/).  Be sure to sign up for updates so you don't miss your next opportunity.

Meaning; you don't want to sell the game through the play store anymore?

You're overestimating my paygrade, MeneM!   :D   I just moderate the forum.  Humble Bundle sign up was my personal suggestion.

Re-read the Amanita Design Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/Amanita.Design/posts/123077831181067 (https://www.facebook.com/Amanita.Design/posts/123077831181067)  Nowhere does it say that Nexus 7 owners will NEVER be able to obtain the game from Google Play.

Ah, I'm sorry, and I was playing "dumb";
I was trying to evoke a reaction from a developer as to ascertain why this is taking so long ;-)

You could try the About (http://amanita-design.net/about.html) tab up top.  In there is a way to directly submit a question to Amanita Design Support.  They've been pretty busy since the Humble Android Bundle took off so don't expect a speedy answer.  ;~)

Well that's good, it means that they made so much money with people "paying what they want" and using DRM free stuff, they no longer need the play store ;-)

So, if I have a phone that has a resolution of 1280x720, in order to get it to fit on my screen should I download the tablet version of the game, rather than the mobile version?

According to some comments posted on Amanita Design's blog ( here (http://web.archive.org/web/20140708082338/http://amanita-design.net/blog/2012/09/03/machinarium-updated-for-big-android-smartphones/)) it appears that if the Google Play site states that your phone will NOT support the Tablet version then you will want to download the mobile version.  Not doing so appears to cause slow performance for some players.

Hmm ... I purchased the Humble Bundle and installed the mobile version, but the top part of the inventory is cut off.  I tried forcing the resolution on my phone (rather than having it in automatic) but this didn't seem to change anything.  It looked exactly the same in either of the two possible resolution settings--1280x720 or 720x480.

I think I'll give the tablet version a shot just to see how it goes.  I have an HTC phone, but I don't know exactly which version.  I'll find out when I get home and give the tablet version an install. ^^

This just in:  "Machinarium Updated With Support For The Nexus 7, Possibly Other Devices"

Update: The link to the GooglePlay store in that article above didn't work for me... so try this one =  http://tinyurl.com/Machinarium-on-GooglePlay (http://tinyurl.com/Machinarium-on-GooglePlay)

I was playing this just fine on my Motorola Photon but recently upgraded to the HTC One from Sprint.  I click on the icon to play and the screen goes black and then it crashes back to my app drawer.  I got this with the Humble Bundle and the version you get from them is 1.6.12.  Do you need to update the version with them somehow or will this not work with the new HTC One?
Thanks

Edit:  My phone has a resolution of 1920×1080p pixels and I have tried both the phone and tablet versions.  They fail the same.
