1  Samorost / Samorost 3 / The home planet on: March 27, 2016, 10:08:21 pm
Let’s appreciate how the home planet evolved from Samorost 1&2 to Samorost 3.
I like to think, beyond the real-life reasons, that it grew organically since the last time we’ve seen it.

I was also very surprised to find (spoilers) other living inhabitants on the planet than our gnome and its dog.
For you, were they always here or are there relatively new neighbours?
2  Samorost / Samorost 3 on Windows / Samorost 3 on a high-DPI display on: March 27, 2016, 11:26:18 am
Hello Smiley

I just launched Samorost 3 on a laptop computer with a high-DPI screen (where each logical pixel is displayed with several physical pixels).
The game appears aliased, with very visible pixels.

For instance, the loading symbol, pixelated.

The solution to fix this and play the game in all its splendour is to open the Properties of the Samorost 3 executable.
Jump to the Compatibility tab, and check ‘Disable display scaling on high DPI settings’. Apply.

Restart the game, and the aliasing should be gone (and the UI elements smaller).

The loading symbol, cured.

Does it work for you? Smiley
3  Whatever / Other Games or Stuff that Inspires you / Taxi Journey on: September 01, 2013, 03:51:46 pm
When I was a child, one of my favourite games was “L'album secret de l'oncle Ernest” (I have no idea if they made it into other languages). That was a very clever and nice game that was all taking place in the travel logbook of an inventing uncle. They made other games in the same universes, and there were all very good.

Éric Viennot and other people behind l'oncle Ernest seem to be back for a new game! It's named Taxi Journey and apparently it will be an adventure puzzle game about a taxi driver in a small pedal car who carry a little girl on his back:

There's a video on their website and they are soon starting a Kickstarter campaign. I'm curious to see how it will go on!

I don't know anything about Desura. They doesn't seem to offer more than Humble, do they?

I've got a personal thing which is “always buy a game, download a software, purchase an album, order a movie, acquire a book from the official website, or — if no way to get the piece of work is directly offered on the website — from the main store directly linked from the official website”. That's often how you are sure to get the latest version, get all the updates, all the extra content, all the platforms available, and where the more money will go to the creators. Smiley

When you buy on the Humble Store, you can download again and again the game for all platforms and its soundtrack an infinite number of times! And if you buy other games from Humble (either from the games' websites or during a Humble Bundle), they all get added in your library. Humble Store is quietly becoming a standard for ordering independent games.

If you really can't go without Steam, there even *might* be a Steam key included with the Humble Store purchase. I'm not sure. It is the case for the games I bought independently here, but it's not certain about Machinarium.
6  Machinarium / General Machinarium topics / Re: Chrome OS? on: August 25, 2013, 10:00:20 pm
Theoretically, you may be able to run the Linux version on Chrome OS, except if they put limitations on running non-web applications.

Can you access the filesystem on a Chrome OS?

You can also extract the main .swf from the game executable and open it in the browser. I guess it'll be able to access all the game data as expected.

That's some things to try, I'm really not sure what could work as I'm not familiar with this system.

Amanita said on Google+ that they “plan to update [Botanicula] with some more options for Linux users.” Smiley

Amanita's store use the same back-end than the Humble Bundle, so the gift system is probably the same. Here's what the Bundle says about the gift option:

To give the bundle as a gift for someone else, just make sure this checkbox is checked and enter your own email as you normally would. You will be emailed a special gift URL that you can give to the recipient, which will let them retrieve the games at any time.

Hi, you can contact Amanita there: http://amanita-design.net/about.html#email Smiley
And what is this bug, while we're at it? Maybe a solution has already been found.

Nice picture, I like it too! Cheesy
13  Amanita Design / Kooky / Re: Czech audio and English subtitles Humble Botanicula Debut. on: April 22, 2012, 10:14:21 pm
Yes, I found this very disappointing, too (and I'm not Czech). I just wanted to see the movie in original version and not dubbed. The same way we're able to choose our operating system for games in each humble bundle, we should be able to choose between original or dubbed for movies.

However, this is not an issue to report to Amanita, but to the Humble team.
Maybe if we all send nice messages asking for it… Smiley

By the way billyboob, I liked your comparison between dubbing and 'uncanny valley' effect. Smiley
14  Botanicula / Botanicula Puzzle Q&A / Re: town broken on: April 22, 2012, 07:43:16 pm
Another problem (more of a cosmetic bug) I have is the missing walking/running animation of my characters in the exterior area of the town. I just click any house, hazelnut & friends keep standing around, and after a few seconds the room appears on the screen.
Same here. Didn't thought it was a bug actually, but now you've said it…

Try to click and drag the cord, like if you were actually pulling it! Smiley
