Hello. :) I'll paste a quote from an old interview with the lead developer, Jakub Dvorský:

How did you kind of come in to your art style [for Machinarium]?

JD: It was a really long process for Machinarium because we knew that we wanted a new art style for this game. In our older games, we used collages for backgrounds. This time, we wanted more hand drawn, and we wanted to create a more handmade feeling for the game. And everything should be very organic because the game is about robots, so it's a contrast to it. Everything is very rusty and organic and hand drawn quite freely but with lots of details. So, we came up with hand drawn backgrounds, which are really hand drawn on pencil and paper, then finished in computer. We are adding pictures and a lot of details and colors.

Wow!  Have a look at the nice comments people have left sharing their happy memories on Amanita's Facebook page Re: Machinarium's 8th birthday:

Sorry you're having trouble playing Machinarium on your Surface Pro and that "altering the application mouse DPI setting (via compatibility tab)" didn't work.

You'll have to write to Support and hope they have a solution, else they'll provide you with a refund.

Good luck and please post a follow up when you resolve your problem so that others may benefit from your experience.

Have just downloaded the new version. All working fine except the pointer appears in a different position to where you touch the touchscreen.

Weird thing is if you explore the boundary of your touchscreen Machinarum seems to learn where your screen limit is and the pointer corrects to the right position.
When you move the next level the pointer offset is back.

Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 2 and 3.
Tried altering the application mouse DPI setting (via compatibility tab) and no effect.
Any suggestions? Huh
