How unexpected! You should definitely send out a newsletter to inform all of your fans.

Already spent some time playing the game and I can tell you for a fact that half an hour won't be enough to make progress if you're like me: finding and interacting with every object, looking around and listening to the lovely audio ;)

Downloaded OnLive specifically for this.

Awesome demo, really looking forward to the game (hopefully not too long to wait now  ;D).

Ack. Just a heads-up that OnLive won't work unless you have at least a 2 Mbps connection speed. (Mine is only 1.5 Mbps. Oh well.  =o(  ;o)

Does anyone else know why I would have trouble accessing the demo on Onlive?  I can't find it on their facebook page or on their program.

No idea. Wanted to play a bit today as well since I got more time on my hands. But looks as though it was completely removed from the IGF Showcase list.

(...)

I just asked one of the Onlive staff about this but the only answer they were able to give me is that Botanicula is now unavailable. They haven't been told why or for how long.

I think what happened is that the OnLive sneak peak at Botanicula caught Amanita Design by surprise.  I believe that OnLive never checked with A.D. about this Facebook thing which was to reveal Botanicula prior to Amanita's schedule and when Jara and the guys found out about it they put a stop to it.

Oh you lucky few that had a chance to play Botanicula before the official release!

@Mariya, I hope you sniffed it all at once.   ;D

Lack of communication from Onlive's side, ey? Still, I'm unsure whether the removal of the game was the right thing to do. This IGF Showcase is an incredibly effective (and cheap) way of advertising each title, not to mention all the potential customers you gain by doing basically nothing.

For example, I never heard of FTL before giving it a go on Onlive. It's a small but addicting roguelike sci-fi where you manage your ship, its systems and crew. Tons of people were hooked immediately and started supporting the project (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/64409699/ftl-faster-than-light?ref=live). The team got a funding of $20,000 in just under a day and more than $40,000 in 48 hours. We're at the third day of this kickstarter promotion and customers have already pledged $52,000+ towards the development costs and personal extras. Word gets around.

I believe Botanicula would've gained a great deal of recognition and profit, if not for its removal from Onlive. But alas, I'm unaware of all the implications or details, and trust that Amanita made the right choice. Maybe it was a temporary decision and we'll soon see it again?

Regardless of what happens, you guys got my money. I'm hooked since Samorost. No, not addicted at all *starts shaking and foaming at the mouth*

An OnLive Representative has confirmed my guess about why Botanicula was pulled:

"The developers kindly asked that we remove it from our showcase and we complied. I don't know why they asked for that specific request."

I don't do Facebook so I couldn't participate in this the OnLive opportunity.  But my gut feeling is that - despite the excellent point Ilsyde makes about the commercial gains to be made via that venue - the OnLive experience probably offended the aesthetics shared by the guys at Amanita Design.  Don't get me wrong, I am NOT calling the guys at A.D. "snobs" or suggesting anything derogatory about OnLive, I'm just reiterating my perception that Amainta Design DEFINITELY walks to the drummers of their own inner beat.    ;D
