Wow!  JD, you and your team's creative output reminds me of how a band of really good musicians who've come to know their instruments and recording equipment all the better after years of practice and performance can produce something completely different and unique from what their beginning strides sounded like.  And, personally, I like this; your new stuff, very much!

I only flinched when the robo-cat was electrocuted.  That moment reminded me of the "Haluz" Flash game [http://haluz.eu/] in which one has to maneuver a snake to eat a mouse in order to cross a chasm to progress in the game.

Don't get me wrong, I full well understand that it's the way of the world: "something is always eating or being eaten"... or killed.  I just never thought... well... let's just say that this clip makes it crystal clear that "Machinarium" is obviously not going to be anything like some sort of "Samorost 3".

It'll be something entirely unique and brand new.
(and I can hardly wait for the finished product!)   :)

wow, the new video http://www.vimeo.com/1627388 gives a real good insight! great art-work, smooth movings and lovely details.

first impression of the sound is not overwhelming, though. probably i still struggle to get used with the robotic world (and therefore robotic music). 'cause i loved the psychedelic and mysterious sound of samorost. but since it's only a bit of music you can hear in that video, patience is the word for me.

all in all a great impression of the game! keep on good work and make us happy.

Was the music from this preview a sample of the music that is going to be in the game?

Was the music from this preview a sample of the music that is going to be in the game?

The cut you heard was from the "Questionaut" game soundtrack...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/games/questionaut/pop.shtml
... and it was written and performed by Tomas Dvorak (a.k.a., "Floex").

It's been confirmed that Tomas will also be doing the soundtrack for Machinarium...
http://www.indiegames.com/blog/2008/03/interview_samorost_developer_j_1.html

so, based on what he did for the Samorost2 game soundtrack...
http://www.last.fm/music/Tom%C3%A1%C5%A1+Dvo%C5%99%C3%A1k

and the caliber of his solo work...
http://www.last.fm/music/Floex/Pocustone

I would say that you can confidently expect that he'll create some truly remarkable music for the Machinarium game!   :)

here's the new trailer with original music composed for Machinarium. it's a little melancholic but don't worry - it's just this track ;)

Beautiful!  The artwork keeps getting smoother and more multi-dimensional.  I foresee hours of exploration once Machinarium is released!
And, FWIW, I personally don't hear that track as "melancholic".  I hear Floex's signature "downtempo chill" muse reaching for unique vibes... and I like it!   8)

I also feel inspired by that three-piece robot band scene!  Wouldn't it be cool if the musicians were intereactive and one could augment their performances by clicking on each of the players - the percussion, sax and didgeridoo - independantly to create unique music every time you played through that scene?!    (hey!  now *there's* an "extra-credit-project" for you and your team, eh?  ;D  )

It looks brilliant! Can't wait to buy it.

Btw, is the city design inspired by Paul Grimault's The King and the Mockingbird? Or maybe that's for another thread, "spot the inspiration".  ;) The black capped guys looks similar to the Bonanza Bros as well... Which is something I really like!

It's getting better and better. The latest preview is a wonderful glimpse of the game play. I love that little robot already. Hope he can find that drum as that drummer is real cool.
Without doubt this has to be the game of 2010!

Wow, the Preview Music sounds a bit like the Bone Machine Album by Tom Waits. It
