https://www.pcgamer.com/machinarium-studio-amanita-design-on-its-new-horror-game-pubg-and-cardboard/
"It's the week of the Game Developers Conference here in San Francisco, which means devs from all over the world are in town to show off their games, talk about how they're made, and throw business cards at strangers. Lucky for us, Lukas Kunce of Amanita Design, creators of point-and-click classics like Machinarium and the Samorost series, was kind enough to sit down with me away from business card firing range. We had a nice chat about their most recent game Chuchel, what they're working on now, and the future of adventure games. We also learned a bit about what the studio is working on now, including a horror game and another built of 3D scans of cardboard creations. For fans of fluff, we also discussed whether Chuchel will get the plushie treatment, what the hell the blockchain is, and brainstormed what an Amanita shooter would look like. (Hint: it won't look like anything.)" ~Edit~ Here is another link to the (audio only) interview. ~Edit~ Highlights... 8:30ish = Amanita are "natural people", which is why their games take place in forests and other such environments. 9:00ish = The band is not called "D" "V" "A"... they're called "Dva". 9:45ish = Floex will contribute his music to one of the "four secret projects" soon. 10:00ish = DVA are working on a new Jara Plachy project (namely: "the horror game") 11:50ish = "friends of Floex" are collaborating on the music for future games (hidden orchestra?) 12:55ish = "Kindzabab" (pronounced, ginzabob) in Chuchel means: "Cherry" 13:45ish = Amanita will soon no longer make "point-and-click" games. They will be "totally different". 16:25ish = "There will be more detailed games to come". 16:55ish = We keep getting Machinarium 2 requests, but we are not working on that. 18:00ish = Due to Machinarium Amanita Design are now self-sustaining. So no more side-projects. 19:45ish = Amanita crew is now about 25 people. 22:15ish = There may be a Chuchel franchise in the future, but not a "standard" sequel. 23:20ish = They ARE working on a Chuchel plushie!! 24:50ish = Amanita is moving away from point-and-click eventually. 25:50ish = The main goal is that we make something that we love. We're not aiming for any particular market. 26:50ish = "What video games inspire you guys?" Half of the guys don't care about video games, they just want to make art. "Kingdom Come Deliverance" game is what the rest are always talking about. 31:52ish = In one sentence can you explain Blockchain? "No." The rest was Game Geek Speak... 38:ish = Will Amanita always be in 2D? "No." |

Hi Alex that works for me most of the time. But sometimes it crashes. I don't know if it's the game or my tablet.

"Czech indie studio Amanita Design are currently working on four new games, one of which will be a horror title." ~https://www.pcgamesn.com/amanita-horror-game “It’s going to be very interesting to see what people think about it,” Amanita Design’s Lukas Kunce tells us. “It’s going to be a bit disgusting at times, and very disturbing.” The game is being headed up by Chuchel’s designer and is already almost finished. Kunce describes the visual style as something akin to Botanicula and Chuchel, but darker. Amanita are still deciding which game to release next, but they plan to release one of the four games next year, with a formal announcement potentially coming later this year. Two of the other ongoing projects are point-and-click efforts along the lines of Machinarium and Samorost, but with their own unique twists. The fourth is neither a horror nor adventure game, but something “completely different, and something new for us”, according to Kunce. While some of PCGN staffers’ kids have been enjoying Chuchel, we’re probably going to steer clear of showing them the horror game... |

I have the issue with the black screen. When the game starts, I see the Amanita logo, then the Machinarium logo appearing, after that I can access the menus on the bottom edge and also two (disabled?) icons in the top right corner, but everything else is just black.
I got the game from GOG and used their Linux installer (gog_machinarium_2.0.0.2.sh). The game is installed in my home directory, all permissions and the launcher seem to be in order. I also tried to launch it manually, with same results. I ran it with strace, and I can see that the application successfully opens and reads files 00/00000000.000 and 00/11111100.111 In the About box, I read that the hardware acceleration should be disabled, and tried to do this as well, but for some reason I can't. If I access the Flash settings dialog and uncheck the "Enable hardware acceleration", when I return to this dialog it is checked again. It works for the web plugin however, e.g. on Adobe's test page I can enable/disable acceleration and it stays that way. My specs: Gentoo Linux 64-bit www-plugins/adobe-flash-29.0.0.113 EDIT: just figured it out - something was wrong either with the rights or some stale files/settings in the ~/.macromedia folder. After I deleted it, the game started properly |

Well, the Amanita Team must be on their way to the coming GDC in San Francisco by now. And CHUCHEL is in the running for the "Excellence in Visual Art" award category.
Wishing Jara and his development team good luck! Based on their Twitter accounts it looks like Jakub, Jara, and Lukas are definitely attending. I hope everyone embarking on this journey makes many new friends, business/creative contacts, gets to eat some fresh seafood, and gets super inspired while they're here! (plus they'll be going up about 30 degrees Fahrenheit from current Czech Republic temps ~woot!~ ) |
