Stuck underwater trying to get 2nd key using the tree figure!

Help!
I have spent about 15 minutes using the tree figure upside down, underwater, to reach the key that is at the bottom.
I click on the red dots, and have found the way to almost reach the key, but it's always just too far.
Does anyone have a trick?

After you click on the first dot then click:
Right dot, Left dot, Left dot.
