FORBES: "Basso Profundo: Morovian Baroque Chapel Becomes Laser Controlled Musical Instrument"

"On PRI’s The World today they aired a story about a pair of Prague media artists who were commissioned for a multimedia festival in the unlikely location of Olomouc, the historic capital of Moravia.  Composer Tomaš Dvořák created the audio elements and Dan Gregor the realtime tracking and visual elements.  Gregor is a member of the Prague-based studio The Macula which creates interactive projection environments.  'The Macula project explores the relationship between image, sound and viewer' according to a statement on their website.  'It fights the established limits and pushes the boundaries in search of alternative approaches.  The goal is to achieve perfect symbiosis and satisfy audio-visual nihilism.  Video mapping is a new visual style based on VJing.  When the standard 2D projection screen was becoming too ordinary, efforts to find something new led to the discovery of open space projection on any surface.'

Okay, kinda lofty, but they deliver.  For a screen based world, they are creating virtual experiences out in physical, social space that people can interact with together.

If you can, listen to this with good headphones.  The bass sounds, in particular, are amazing."
