Hi

First off, my family and I are huge Machinarium fans. It is my six-year-old boy's favourite game on the iPad - at least, it was. Unfortunately I have just updated to the latest version and we are all very sad. We can live with the new, clunky 'star' function, but what has ruined it for us is Josef's new attitude. He fidgets, scratches himself, and worse, folds his arms impatiently while we try to resolve the puzzles. This is not the cute little unassuming robot we were all so eager to help out in the earlier version! We just can't stand to play it any more, and our little boy is heartbroken. I feel especially guilty, because I pushed for the upgrade, lured by promises of improved graphics.

I guess you know what I am going to ask - is there any way I can roll back this upgrade and get the original back? I don't have a Mac, so I haven't synced my upgrades through iTunes. I just want to be able to delete the new version and start again. I'm even happy to pay again if necessary.

BTW, I have bought Amanita games for my PC since Samorost - I really appreciate the work that goes into these mini-masterpieces.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Peter

If you wait a day or two, Peter, I'm sure someone with hands on  (or fingers-on? ;~)  experience will chime in.  I don't own an iPAD but another of the Moderators here does so I'm sure either he or another forum member will get back to you with helpful advice soon.

Josef didn't fidget or scratch himself or fold his arms in the earlier version? I don't remember noticing that at all. Huh. 'Cause I think he's always done that in the desktop version.

Well, from what I can gather, the only way to revert to an earlier version of an app is if you have that version somewhere on your computer, i.e., either you had downloaded the earlier version of the app at some point from the iTunes Store to your iTunes library, or you'd synced your iPad to your computer's iTunes library prior to updating the app.

So the first question I would ask is if you happen to have the app in your iTunes library?

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I don't have iTunes on my computer. Thought it was a long shot ...

Josef may have scratched himself in the old version (I don't remember him ever doing it) but he never folded his arms like a demanding little smart-arse. This may be typical entitlement-culture behaviour for young robots these days, who knows, bu I think it undermines one's motivation for playing the game. I guess I can only hope the designers have a change of heart about this one day!
