Ok, this is the third time im trying to write this, so this will be the short version.

How much of the 16,99 from a steam purchase finds it way back to Amanita design?

I bet you won't get an answer to this question...  and I'd like to know too!  I hope Steam and alike plays fair.

What is easy to guess is that it is less money than buying directly from him.  You also get less... like no Mac/Linux version and no soundtrack.

The best deal is buying from him, you get all the stuff, he gets more money, and the activation also work on Steam!

Not sure that the activation also works on steam !

According to the devs, only the preorder keys will be activable via steam.

I haven't received any STEAM activation code.

IIRC, sellers are prohibited by Valve from disclosing exactly how much money they earn or how much Valve take as a cut.

FWIW, by coincidence an article was just posted on the ars technica site, called: "Game devs speak out on Valve, Steam and conflict of interest" in which JD was quoted:

"We were also unable to find any developers who would admit to feeling exploited by Valve. Quite the opposite actually. Jakub Dvorsky, from Machinarium developer Amanita Design, told Ars that Valve offers a comparable, and in many cases higher, revenue percentage when compared with other digital distribution outlets. And for a small independent developer, this makes all the difference.

'I think it's very good service,' Dvorsky explained. 'It works well and it encourages some people to favor digital copies to boxed versions, which is great for indie developers.'"

And how much Amanita guys earn from their own website ? Hmm ? Because they go through the FastSpring service it may also cost something. Isn't there any solution to sell digital content directly ? Why Amanita's guys don't you make your own e-shop ?

My guess would be that it's similar to PayPal where the transaction fee is somewhat negligible, opening their own E-Shop would represent a huge undertaking. It may take years until it earns the needed maturity the established services already have.
