Banging my head in a dark place. ?

I think this is close to the end...
I'm just the little acorn guy, in a very dark place.
I've been able to capture maybe 3 energy orbs (?)
but I can't seem to go up again. I did once, got frustrated, came back down and now that mouth never ever appears. :*(
did I get far enough through that upper room that it's now closed off from me even though I wasn't completely finished?
Does this mean I'm stuck / unable to complete the game?
Is there a trick to getting the mouth to appear?

If the mouth doesn't appear, you must've already gotten the orb. There are 5 of those orbs altogether. I'd recommend trying out other directions you've not yet gone in. If it helps, this post shows the locations of all 5 mouths: http://forum.amanita-design.net/index.php?topic=4714.msg14083#msg14083
