I love Machinarium's atmosphere -- cute but not cloying. This morning it reminded me of the "Frank" comics by Jim Woodring. They're also cute but with a heavier emphasis on a creepy, dream-like feeling, and they also have a really striking visual style. And like Machinarium, they don't use any spoken dialog -- not in any recognizable language, anyway...

No idea if Woodring would be open to it, but a Frank-based game by Amanita Design could be fascinating. I would be suspicious if any other studio did it, but I'm sure Amanita would understand the Frank world and do it justice.
