I've been wondering if something I read on the Amanita Blog was true regarding the Yellow vs. Black vinyl prints of the LP...
Someone on the blog wrote that "Black vinyl generally sounds better."
Is this true? (and does it, ultimately, really matter??)
I was really curious about this myself, so I'd asked my younger brother who works at the semi-famous record store
Vintage Vinyl whether or not a translucent and/or colored record would sound any worse than a regular black record.
Quoted below is his response, which was interesting to say the least...

Vinyl is vinyl. period. Colored, Picture discs, it's all vinyl, and it all sounds the same.
Records nowadays are being pressed in "180 gram virgin vinyl." All that means is that they're heavier. Do they sound better? Once again, it becomes a question of what are you listening to it ON? One person's stereo is going to sound better than somebody listening to a record on a Walgreen's one-speaker turntable.
Colored vinyl/picture discs are more sought-after because usually they are printed in lesser quantities, making them more desirable to collectors.
But as I said, all vinyl, regardless of color, sounds the same."
I'll be receiving the black one in the mail soon enough. Yeah, the translucent yellow one was already sold out when I'd finally gotten around to placing my order, but I hadn't really cared for its look anyway. If you ask me, regular old black vinyl is a much better and more appropriate fit for the game; translucent yellow vinyl doesn't exactly help to convey the image of a shabby and dusty vintage record. Just my two cents. =o)
