Flooded room under fountain

I did not retrieve the object from the floor pipe before I accidentally flooded the floor (and the bad guys). Having not saved games along the way, is there a way around this or will I have to start over?

Now that you've "flooded the floor (and the bad guys)" climb the ladder up out of the pool-room and drop down into the empty tank to proceed with the game.
