extracting images from the game

first things first.  what an amazing game!  played it through twice already and i just can't keep my jaw off the floor.

i'm wondering if it's possible to extra some imagery from the game directly, rather than just doing a screen cap with the game running?

i only wish to have the imagery so that i may create some forum avatars.  specifically, i'd like images such as the shortcut icons.  (i noticed under vista there's an expanded version of the icon as opposed to the smaller one i see in xp.  this is the image i'm especially interested in!)

If all you want to do is create avatars or icons isn't screen capture resolution sufficient for that purpose?

yes, it is.  i should have been more clear in my original post.

i want to use transparency (either png or gif) and am being lazy.  i don't want to have to edit out the background behind characters pixel by pixel.

i can do it, i'm just being lazy. :]
