I have found 8 blue crystals and fed them all to the eye creature, who now has 8 open eyes, but does not release the star ring. Is there something else to do? I am stuck here. Love the game and really want to finish! I am playing on iPad mini iOS 7.1.1

Did you tap the star ring? Nah, that's not it...it should just come down on its own. If you haven't left the area and then come back since feeding it that last crystal, you might try closing the app and then launching it again, as you should be able to feed that last crystal to the creature again. Hopefully might work then.

Closed the app and reopened and nothing happens. Aaarrrgh. Is there a way to restart this game? I assume I have to uninstall it somehow, I don't even know how to do that. Is this the first time you've encountered this bug?

Well, you don't have to restart the entire game. Tap on the star in the upper left-hand corner, then tap on the little nest icon with the arrow:

Choose the second-to-last rightmost screen from the ones at the bottom there—Part 8:

Tap the middle of the screen and then tap the checkmark to load the save. However, the same thing *might* happen again, so...I would recommend that you delete the game, then redownload it and reinstall it. But your saves will be gone, of course, so you'd have to play over from the beginning.

Yes, this is the first time I've heard anyone mention this bug. :(

To uninstall the game:
1. Exit the game and find its icon on your iPad's Home screen.

2. Hold your finger on the icon until the icons on your Home screen begin to shake or wiggle:

3. Touch the "X" in the upper left-hand corner of the icon.

4. When prompted, touch 'Delete'.

Thanks for all your kind suggestions. I was able to restart this entire level and replayed thru to the end, but now I am in the dark area with all the red monsters. After leaving the game and returning I am unable to move anywhere, all my directional arrows are gone. I defeated the room with the stingrays and the snakes. What is going on? Do I have to restart this level as well? Yikes!

I just read your post to another gamer about saving at this point. Did not know that was an option. This game is beautiful but very frustrating for all these bugs. Hope your developers work on these issues before the next release. In the meantime, I'm grateful for the support. Thanks again!

Basically, closing the app when in this area and then launching the game again will cause that to happen.

Yeah, restarting that section would be frustrating. :(
I'll notify Amanita Design about the issue. (Only problem is that I have no clue how to reproduce this bug.)

 Botanicula for iPad has been updated today to v1.0.3., and this issue has been fixed.

I still have the problem mentioned in the title of this topic, I am stuck with the star element.
Any input/suggestion would be very welcome, I can't wait to progress in that great game.

Hmm....did you upgrade to 1.0.3 from an earlier version? If so, perhaps that caused a problem, I don't know. But you might want to try deleting, then redownloading, and then reinstalling the game. Unfortunately, that means you'll have to start the game over from the beginning.

@Lamkin: thank you for having adjusted the attachment of my post, next time I will pay more attention.

I don't think that the game went through any upgrade, it was purchased just last week.

Just FYI I have performed a reinstall of the game (meaning that you would lose all the save games and restart from the beginning).

I have been able to complete the game without further issues.

Great game but - as per all the great games - it is a bit short.

Seriously, I hope you are going to fix it definitively, because I can't afford to restart all the game just for that.
I already had an issue with Machinarium where all my saved games suddenly disappeared, so I am fed up.

You make great games, do not waste it with such blocking bugs.

Did you try the established solution du jour of reinstalling the game?

Not yet, because, unless I am missing something, it means restarting the game from scratch right after... which I obviously don't want.
Why Amanita would not fix this bug ?

There is no bug here my friend.  Sorry phocean, but as far as I know the current version (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id853706620?mt=8) of Botanicula for The iPad is bug free; so the blame has to fall on a corrupted download.

The main advice we always give on this forum to both iPad and Android users when their games become unplayable is always, "try re-downloading the game".  That always seems to fix the problem.

But, yes, it sucks that you will lose your saved games if you decide to reinstall Botanicula.  I just hope you will vote to continue playing... because I can't think of a single good reason why you should not.  A~)

No insult, but as my job is in big part hunting for bugs in software, it made me laugh. There is no such a thing as bug free software, and it is at least very adventurous to pretend the contrary.


Which does not mean it is a downloading issue. Rather, a corrupted archive would lead to unpredictable behavior (and possibly a crash), and not to a functional issue (win condition) that affected several users at the exact same place. It may have just worked the second time because the environment was different (different game, different ways) and the particular conditions causing the bug were not triggered.


Because I neither have the time, nor the will to restart all. It is a very good game, but not enough to me so I feel to do it a second time.
On the other hand, it is very frustrating to be blocked here, after investing time and money on it.

Really, a developer should look at it. It is a matter of professionalism and respect against customers and future victims of this bug. I am sure the good guys at Amanita would agree.

No insult taken, phoecean, but as I specifically said, "as far as I know the current version of Botanicula for the iPad is bug free".  If you want to debate my assumption with someone that has both the authority and ability to modify the current version of Botanicula for iPad that resides on the iStore archive then you are welcome to take the matter up directly with the Amanita Design support staff via the About (http://amanita-design.net/about.html) tab.

Since I contacted the support, no answer: not nice :-(

Meanwhile, I uninstalled and re-installed Botanicula.

Before, I managed to backup the save file (using a tool like IExplorer), named BotaniculaIOS.sol.
I copied it back to the re-installed game and I am still stuck.

So:

 - it definitely has nothing to do with a corrupted game archive
 - it may be a corrupted backup file (I am still looking for a working Flash Local Shared Object viewer to check the content)
 - it may be a logic bug in the game

I did not get any feedback from the support, though I even gave them the backup file so that they can check.
It seems there is simply no support and they just don't give it a shit.

They got the money and it is selling pretty well after all, so why caring about quality and border cases ?
I hate that spirit. I believe I won't buy anything from Amanita anymore.

Well, they are probably a bit busy with the production of Samorost 3 and your'e probably the one of many who've stumbled upon a bug in the game.

I can't really understand why you won't purchase any more of Amanita's games, even after all this trouble. Their games are high quality, and are very good.

Because it sucks to be blocked in the middle in a game (Botanicula). Because it sucks to loose all saves (Machinarium).
What quality are you talking about ? Gameplay and graphism, yes. Stability and reliability, no.
A bug is no entertainment. It was many years ago the last time I encountered such issues, when the computer era was totally different (Atari).
In 2014 it should not occur and at least it should be treated appropriately.

Yeah, I agree it's frustrating to lose your saves (and I'm assuming you're talking about losing games on your Mac or PC and not your iPad), but I'd only lost my saves for Machinarium once after clearing Safari's cache. As I'd mentioned before in another thread, saving issues just seem par for the course with Flash games, IMO.
As for this particular bug in the iPad version of Botanicula, it seems like your best course of action would be to reinstall the game...as that worked for Yanez above...but I realize having to play through the game again is a pain.

It did happen on my iPad too. As I played both games successively, I got those bugs in a short period of time. Making my frustration even bigger... :-(

I bought this game for iPad this year (2016). Why do I have the same problem with the blue flowers and not being able to get the star ring as was identified in 2014. Surely this problem should have been fixed long ago.??
I saw someone suggested I could go back to a previous save but I do not know how I could do that. Any ideas? It's a shame as I was really enjoying the game.

As is mentioned in that post, you'll want to click on Part 8 (parts 1 through 8 will be listed in order from left to right). That will take you to the beginning of this part with the blue crystals. Hopefully it will work this time. But if it doesn't work, I would suggest that you delete the game, then redownload it and reinstall it...to see if that might solve the issue.

Has anyone been able to solve this problem? I'm stuck on Part 8 after feeding all the blue crystals to the eye monster. I can't retrieve the star disc. I've been through this part of the game twice and still getting stuck at the end.... :(.

I haven't deleted and redownloaded the app as yet cos I wanted to know if that worked for anyone before attempting to start the game from scratch.

I've also lodged my complaint through the web portal but haven't gotten a reply yet - hoping they will address my problem soon cos otherwise I'll want a refund on this!

Sorry ashi, but we can't force people to post follow ups; either the delete/re-install method works or it doesn't and folks quit in frustration. We seldom find out which it was…  
(correction: someone in this very thread (http://forum.amanita-design.net/index.php?topic=4734.msg14454#msg14454) tried delete/re-install and then successfully finished the game)

Either way, deleting your current installation and re-downloading a clean copy of the game is the best and only advice we can give you.



If once you've tried re-downloading you find that you're still stuck at the same spot THEN you can send your complaint here (http://amanita-design.net/contact.html).  
A refund you'll have to manage through the iTunes site.


Please be so kind as to post a follow up to let others know how you eventually resolve your problem.

Hit this problem too. Reading here, it sounds as if it is pervasive. Maybe it’s time to put in a fix, e.g. tapping on the star disk when all 8 eyes are active forces the acquisition. That would be nice.

I have the same problem. i purchased this game in winter 2017. Any new solutions on how to release the star ring??
