Title: Idea: New Game based on Jim Woodring's "Frank" Post by: Mongo on November 12, 2009, 03:40:08 pm I love Machinarium's atmosphere -- cute but not cloying. This morning it reminded me of the "Frank" comics by Jim Woodring. They're also cute but with a heavier emphasis on a creepy, dream-like feeling, and they also have a really striking visual style. And like Machinarium, they don't use any spoken dialog -- not in any recognizable language, anyway...
No idea if Woodring would be open to it, but a Frank-based game by Amanita Design could be fascinating. I would be suspicious if any other studio did it, but I'm sure Amanita would understand the Frank world and do it justice. For anyone who is not familiar with Woodring's work and who wants to know more, check out his blog: http://jimwoodring.blogspot.com/ Here's a page that shows several nice examples, including some in vivid color: http://jimwoodring.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html Now wouldn't it be fun to be able to walk around in an animated version of that world?
