Game-Breaker

So I've been replaying Machinarium, everything was going smooth until I got to the part where you have to get the radio for the crank-guy, so he opens the water-thingy for you sou you can go through the pipes at the bottom of the fountain. In this room there is a puzzle to stop the water because robots don't really like water. For this puzzle there are three red tools you have to find to close off the water, one of them is already on there, the second on is in a book, and the third on is in a pipe. I got the one out of the book but forgot to get the one out of the pipe. Luckily the crank-guy dropped it for me. I then saved but when I came back the third tool was gone, making it so that I can't finish the game. I was wondering if there were any other people who have encountered this and so that people don't get the same problem.
